About Us - The Story of Tomassi Specialty Coffee

Who we are

Tomassi Specialty Coffee was born in 2013 in Aprilia , in the province of Latina, from the desire of Emanuele Tomassi , master roaster and owner of a well-known bar in the town, to promote the development of a culture of specialty coffee even in a reality still tied to the tradition of the classic espresso at the counter .

Passion, ambition and spirit of sacrifice have led Tomassi over the years to obtain numerous awards, such as the victory in 2018 and 2024 of the Italian Coffee Roasting Championship .

A Chinese proverb says: “The person who leaves for a journey is never the same person who returns.” And Emanuele knows this well:

“When my family and I moved to Denmark in 2009, I met the world vice-champion of baristas who had a micro roastery. From there I started roasting, I became passionate and I began to live this world as a professional” .
Once back in Italy , Emanuele transformed this passion into his work, travelling to find inspiration and realising within a few years a visionary and avant-garde project for a small town in central Italy like Aprilia (LT) .

Fundamental to Emanuele 's growth process was Marco Cremonese , consultant, senior master roaster and SCA trainer, who introduced him to the world of roasting competitions and led him to victory in the Italian Coffee Roasting Championship .

“Our competition is the longest and most complex of the disciplines of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). – says Emanuele – Every year it has been a different emotion: I started last, the second year I placed fourth, in 2017 second and in 2018, finally, first!”

Today, his wife Elena and one of his three sons, Andrè Tomassi , also work together with him.

Born in 2004 , Andrè is Emanuele's second-born son , but also his right-hand man within the roasting company.

"My love for coffee began when I was very young, watching my father roasting. That's when my curiosity about what specialty coffee was sparked and then, over the years, between trips to the plantations and a lot of research, I became more and more passionate."

Andrè uses his passion for various extraction methods in the SCA championships , where, despite his young age, he has already taken part in various competitions such as Brewing and Barista , winning the national selections for two years .

"I started competing in the brewing category because I love filter coffee and I wanted to challenge myself and improve. Today I love competing in the brewing competition because it gives me the opportunity to best express what filter coffee means to me and, in general, my vision of coffee."

During his career, Andrè has achieved significant goals in the world of coffee, distinguishing himself among the best professionals in the sector . He is currently among the top 8 Italian baristas and brewers .

The family roastery, Tomassi Coffee , has twice won the title of Italian Roasting Champion (2018 and 2024) and placed sixth at the world championships .

Andrè actively contributed to these successes, carrying on the family tradition with dedication .

His commitment to competitions has seen him excel in the Italian Brewing and Barista championships , reaching the national finals at SIGEP in Rimini after having passed the selections and won them for 3 consecutive years .

Furthermore, in 2024 he came in second place in the Italian Ibrik championship , demonstrating his versatility and expertise also in this particular extraction technique .

His constant search for perfection has made him a point of reference in the Italian specialty coffee scene.

In addition to his work in roasting and competitions , Andrè is dedicated to the dissemination of coffee culture , sharing his knowledge and experience with enthusiasts and professionals in the sector .

Its goal is to raise the quality of coffee through:

  • A rigorous selection of the best raw materials
  • An artisanal roasting
  • Constant attention to the sustainability and ethics of collaborations with coffee producers .
